Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"The choice of meats, fish, vegetables, veggie protein and carbs for the hotpot was amazing. Large selection and good quality. The Sichuan spicy broth was beautifully flavoured. The restaurant is pleasant and the refrigerated areas are clean and well kept. Nice friendly service and card payment possible. Around 600g of food (plus hotpot broth) cost me 22€ and was a huge portion!"
"“A really interesting place! You can try authentic Sichuan specialties in tasting portions. The soups are wonderful — nourishing not only for the body but for the soul as well. The interior is very minimalist, but that only adds to the charm. Highly recommended!”"
"I can't help but come back after yesterday. I haven't found a good malatang restaurant in Berlin until now. I had the original sauce level 1 spice yesterday which was not spicy at all. Today, I went for level 2. It had a nice kick but was still very manageable. I found the broth a bit oilier, maybe due to the extra spice. Nevertheless, it was tasty! Definitely coming back!"
"It’s a really good Chinese noodle place where you pick up your own ingredients, choose the broth and get it cooked for you. All broths are vegan which is great! The place is spacious and we didn’t have to wait, so fine if you are in a rush. I really recommend home made noodles and shrimp dumplings (not gyoza, they get too soggy and fall apart). You can make your own sauces on the separate stand, if your broth is way too spicy, you can neutralize it a bit with a super tasty sesame paste, really loved the idea. I tried sichuan and thai broth and the second one is super lemongrassy and tasty, the sichuan I was not a fan of, with 2 chilli it was way too spicy and prickling on the tongue. Unfortunately you can’t try the broths before and also mix them. Also you need minimum 400g of ingredients to make it cooked (which costs 13€ total), which is a lot if you are not so hungry or take it for the kid, for example. Be prepared to maybe take it home with you, but they provide the boxes and bags which is great! Overall definitely a place to try and see if you like it for yourself, I’ll be back when I want some noodles and choose my own fave ingredients"
"Great variety and quality, but be careful with the quantity because you pay by weight. Luckily I went with a friend who knows how this works and, following her suggestions, I didn't take too much items. Many people sitting around us ended up throwing half of their food. One good tip is avoiding noodles or cheap food that you could have at home :)"
"It’s a 10/10 for me. Huge choice of vegetables, sea food, noodles, proteins, broths and drinks. Everything very was fresh and hygienic, the staff was super friendly and the service was extremely fast on a busy diner time. I also like the modern interior. You also get a bib to protect your clothes can’t wait to go again!"
"Great variety of options to choose from, with very fresh ingredients. Excellent 麻辣烫, including vegan options; love that they opened one in Berlin-Fhain. There are different soup bases and one stir-fry option, as well as white rice bowls, so there’s something for every taste. Service is good and efficient. Prices aren’t cheap, but you can choose the amount you want. There’s now a scale to weigh your selection (minimum 400g per person, price per 100g). People complaining about the prices, just be mindful of not measuring how much you're eating. Lots of drink options and even a sauce station, hot-pot style (not traditional for 麻辣烫, but a nice touch). Only thing missing: the coconut drink! It’d be great if they offered at least the store-bought version (the black can), since it’s a must-have Chinese classic. Indoor and outdoor seating available. One complaint: Indoor chairs were designed by somebody who does not sit on chairs. They're extremely uncomfortable."
"yummy stir-fried mala/ mala-tang! I prefer the dry version so I tried this first, next time will try the soup version. The beancurd dessert is quite refreshing too Friendly staff, spacious place to eat"
